How nyfinepay works
nyfinepay is an independent private service, not the City of New York. You can always pay the city directly, which may cost less.
nyfinepay is a short path from “I got a ticket” to “it is paid”. Here is what each step does, what we need from you and what you get. We are an independent private company, not the City of New York, and you can pay the city directly instead.
Step 1. Search
On the home page, enter your license plate and the state that issued it, or a 10-digit summons number from a ticket. We check the city’s records for open parking and camera tickets. If you gave a summons number, we find its plate and list every open ticket on that plate, so you can pay them together. Searching is free and usually takes a few seconds.
We need: plate and state, or one summons number. Not sure where it is? Find your summons number.
Step 2. Review
You see each open ticket with its violation, issue date, summons number and amount. All payable tickets start selected; clear any you do not want to pay. A running total shows the fines, the city’s 2% card fee and the total. Tickets we cannot pay show the reason, for example a scheduled hearing or a payment already in progress.
Step 3. Pay
You enter your name, email and billing address, then your card. There is no account and no password. Card details are typed into secure fields from Evervault and encrypted in your browser, so your card number and security code never touch our own pages or servers. The button shows the exact amount you will pay. More on security.
We need: first and last name, email address, billing street, city, state and ZIP code, and a card you are authorized to use.
Step 4. We submit your payment
After you press Pay, we submit your payment to the city’s payment system and wait for its answer. Keep the page open. This can take a minute or two. If the connection drops before we see the answer, we tell you so and ask you not to pay again; email us with the reference shown (it starts with NFP-) and we will check the outcome with you.
Step 5. Your confirmation
When the city accepts the payment, the page shows the city’s confirmation number and our reference. Save or screenshot the page. We do not send a receipt email ourselves, although the city’s payment system may email its own receipt to the address you entered. A ticket can take a few business days to show as paid on the city’s site; the city says 2 to 4 business days for online payments. More on timing.
What you get
- A list of your open tickets, with the total before you commit.
- Your payment submitted to the city for the tickets you chose.
- The city’s confirmation number.
- Email support for problems with a payment made through us.
What you do not get
We handle payments only. We do not dispute, reduce or dismiss tickets, give legal advice or attend hearings, and we do not pay moving violations. If you think a ticket is wrong, contest it with the city before you pay.
What it costs
You pay the fines and the city’s card fee. We do not charge a service fee at this time. See pricing for the breakdown and an example.
Which tickets we handle
NYC parking violations and speed (school zone), red light and bus lane camera tickets. Read types of NYC parking violations.
