Accessibility
nyfinepay is an independent private service, not the City of New York. You can always pay the city directly, which may cost less.
We want nyfinepay to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or a magnifier. Here is what we have done and what we have not.
What we have done
- Semantic page structure: one main heading per page, headings in order, and landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer.
- A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page.
- Keyboard access to links, buttons, tabs, the state picker, ticket selection and the payment form, with a visible focus outline.
- Labels on form fields, and error messages announced to screen readers.
- Text alternatives for informative images; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
- Text and link colors chosen for contrast: the body text, muted text, link and button colors we use all measure at least 4.5:1 against their backgrounds.
- Pages that resize and reflow for narrow screens and for zoom. We do not block zooming.
- Animations are switched off for people who ask their device to reduce motion.
What we have not done
We have not had a formal accessibility audit, and we have not tested with every assistive technology. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA but do not claim that we do. The card fields on the payment step are provided by Evervault and we do not control all of their behavior.
Tell us about a problem
If something on nyfinepay is hard to use, email support@nyfinepay.com and tell us the page and what happened. We usually reply within one to two business days, and we will fix what we can or help you pay in another way. You can also always pay the city directly through CityPay.
