Payment not showing, or paid twice?
nyfinepay is an independent private service, not the City of New York. You can always pay the city directly, which may cost less.
Wait for the posting time first: usually 2 to 4 business days online and up to two weeks by mail. If it still shows as owed, send the city your proof of payment. If you were charged twice, contact the city and us. Never pay a third time to “fix” it.
First, check the timing
Most “missing” payments are just not posted yet. The city says online payments may take 2 to 4 business days to be reflected and mailed payments up to two weeks. See how long a payment takes to show.
If you paid through nyfinepay
- You saw a confirmation number. The city accepted the payment. Keep the number and give it time to post.
- We told you we could not confirm the payment. Do not pay again. Sometimes the city accepts a payment but we lose the connection before we see the confirmation. Email support@nyfinepay.com with the reference shown on the page (it starts with
NFP-) and we will check the outcome with you. - Only some of your tickets were paid. The confirmation page lists which ones were not. You can search again and pay those.
Our refund policy explains how we handle duplicate or mistaken payments.
Quick checklist before you write to anyone
- Is the plate and state on the payment the same as on the ticket?
- Did you pay the right ticket number? A plate can have several.
- Has the full posting time passed, counted in business days?
- Does the ticket search on the city’s own status page show the same thing as ours?
If it still shows as owed after the posting window
Ask the Department of Finance to look into it. The city asks you to send an online request through its payment assistance form with:
- Your full name and address.
- The plate number and state.
- The ticket or NOL number and the ticket date.
- A copy of your proof of payment (a receipt, confirmation page, card statement or check image).
If you were charged twice
The city says you can get help if your card was charged more than once for the same violation. Overpayments are first applied to any judgment debt you owe before any funds are returned. Duplicate payments and payments for dismissed or reduced tickets are generally refunded automatically, and refund forms take about three weeks to process, according to the city. If you paid through us, email us with your reference as well, and we will help you follow up.
If you keep getting notices after you paid
Check the ticket numbers on each notice against your records. If they match what you paid, send the city your proof. The city’s page on tickets already paid or dismissed lists what to send; use copies, not originals. If you keep receiving notices and your own attempts have not worked, the Parking Summons Advocate can help.
Avoid recovery scams
The city warns that offers to get a discount or reduction on your tickets in exchange for payment are scams, and that CityPay never sends unsolicited text messages reminding you to pay. Only pay through the city’s own channels, or a service you chose yourself.
What we cannot do
We cannot change a ticket’s status in the city’s system, remove a penalty or stop a boot. We can share the details we have about your payment and help you prepare the request.
